The Petai Fruit or Parkia Speciosa.
Petai is a plant. It is a big tree and grows in the forest or in the wilderness. In science : It is under the Fabaceae family and in the Plant Kingdom.Truthfully, is it a fruit or vegetable? OMG!
Petai beans are broad pods in clusters and you have to peel them before eating it fresh or before cooking them. Petai is usually taken fresh with vegetables as salads. Despite its gaseous or stinky smell, they provide good health benefits. I consider it the best ‘Organic Plant’ as Petai is not commercially grown for business. Locals pluck and sells when in season.
My husband introduced me to eating this dish – bitter broad beans cooked with chilli paste or can be combined with chicken or fish. An Indonesian friend taught me to eat it fresh and I managed to adopt both ways to enjoy this vegetable. If you are too sensitive, I suggest ‘NO’ for you.
Petai smells like methane gas comments from ‘Weird-Food.com’. Bad breath and flatulence is expected after consumption and smells lingers for days. Urine smells; stinks exactly Petai too.
